Skin Whitening Treatment in Pune

All About Skin Whitening

Skin whitening or bleaching refers to reducing the concentration of melanin in the skin. This process uses chemicals to achieve the desired result. Melanin pigment is responsible for the complexion of the skin. Lower concentrations of the pigment yield a whiter complexion.

Most of the common chemicals used are harmful and toxic. They may cause neurological and kidney-related problems. Identifying a safe and suitable procedure for skin whitening is essential. You should be aware of all the available skin brightening treatments before you consider whitening your complexion.

What is skin whitening?

Skin-whitening is the process of reducing the amount of melanin on the skin, to achieve a whiter complexion. People with darker skin have more concentrations of melanin. The quality of this pigment determines the color of your skin. Melanocyte cells produce melanin in your skin. However, the production of melanin varies with sun exposure, degree of skin damage, and the use of chemicals.

Skin whitening also proves effective on problems like freckles, birthmarks, acne, scars, wrinkles, and moles. Darker-skinned people often resort to whitening to have a fairer complexion. Skin Whitening comes with various options, such as bleaching cream, lightening creams, chemical peels, and laser therapy.

This treatment helps tamper the tyrosinase enzyme. This chemical is responsible for the production of melanin in the skin. The melanocytes are present at the end of the epidermal layer. Hence, skin whitening reduces the melanin pigment, making your skin tone lighter than it was. Besides, the overproduction of this pigment causes hyperpigmentation on the skin.

How is the treatment done?

The whole skin whitening treatment begins with a skin examination. Firstly, book an appointment with a reputed dermatologist. The doctor may begin by examining your skin type. Then, she will suggest you a suitable whitening treatment for your skin. You can choose the exact complexion you wish to attain.

Various treatment options for skin whitening are as follows:

Whitening products

This treatment involves using chemical-based skin whitening products such as creams, serums, or facial packs. They contain components like kojic acid, hydroquinone, arbutin, retinol, glycolic acid, or azelaic acid. These chemicals have skin-bleaching properties. This treatment yields immediate results, but they do not last for long. They may even come with harmful side effects.

Chemical peel

This treatment involves the application of a chemical solution. This solution usually contains alpha-hydroxy acids. They remove the upper layer of the skin, along with the dead skin cells and melanin. This peel is a mild option to brighten skin. It also removes tan, acne, and dark spots. Besides, it shows lasting effects.

Laser Treatment

This treatment requires using a beam of laser light to get rid of dead skin cells. The doctor targets the light in the desired area to remove melanin. The immune system of the body slowly eliminates the traces of the dark color. The skin brightens to a large extent and appears flawless. It decreases pigmentation, tanning, and other blemishes. This is a safer treatment for the face and other parts of the body.

Whitening Injection

This method involves injecting glutathione into the skin. It is a chemical that detoxifies the body and shields the skin from Ultraviolet rays. It is a safe treatment to whiten your skin. However, injecting higher doses of glutathione causes harmful side effects.

Skin lightening or skin whitening: What’s the difference?

Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of the skin, causing an uneven complexion. This occurs in patches or a large area of the skin. It commonly appears on the hands and face. Hyperpigmentation develops mainly because of exposure to the sun, stress, or hormonal imbalance. Getting rid of this ailment requires special products.

Whitening and brightening are two terms that are confused for each other. However, they differ vastly. Skin lightening is the go-to treatment if you want to eradicate hyperpigmentation. This treatment uses lightening agents such as vitamin C, niacinamide, salicylic acid, and alpha-arbutin.

They halt the production of melanin by disrupting the tyrosinase enzyme. This helps fade dark spots, discoloration, and acne. However, this treatment only clears your blemishes and makes your skin look flawless. It does not make your complexion whiter.

On the other hand, skin whitening is a whole other treatment. It is for people who want to become fairer than their original complexion, not just blemish-free. The treatment uses bleaching agents which help remove dead skin cells and melanin build-up off your face. It brightens and whitens your complexion than it was originally.

Although they both help in evening out the skin tone, skin whitening and lightening are not the same. They are both equally effective based on your needs. If you want to lighten your skin shade, you need to whiten it. However, if you only want to be blemish-free, lightening is sufficient.

Is skin lightening permanent?

The skin lightening often lasts for only a few months. However, you can follow these measures to extend the effects of your treatment:

  • Stay healthy and maintain your well-being
  • Avoid stressing and worrying
  • Use a sunblock with at least an SPF of 50+
  • Maintain a skincare routine
  • Always keep your skin clean
  • Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
  • Follow a balanced and healthy diet
  • Exercise or meditate regularly

Although these little measures may help extend the duration of your skin lightening, it is not permanent. The effect of lightning agents wears off with time.

Can skin whitening be permanent?

Skin whitening is not a permanent solution. Although bleaching agents may have a long effect, they do fade away with time. Chemical peels and other whitening treatments do not last longer than a few months. However, these treatments help you achieve instant results. You will see a brighter and whiter complexion almost immediately with skin whitening.

Laser treatments last longer than any other whitening agent. They are a suitable option if you are looking for long-term skin whitening. Laser treatment can remove even birthmarks or tattoos. However, even a laser cannot remove tanning and melasma.

Is laser skin whitening painful?

Laser skin whitening is pain-free. Moreover, they are highly effective and show immediate results. The laser beam feels hot on the skin and mildly uncomfortable but is not painful. However, you may suffer minor pain on the skin a couple of days post the treatment. This can be moderated with appropriate medicines.

Your complexion does not define you. Everyone is beautiful, no matter what color. However, skin whitening may help boost your confidence. It enhances your features and makes you look flawless.
